Standard mirror, HammerHead suction mirror, standard suction mirror, medium grit prophy paste, and hand piece with a prophy angle. The combination of prophy paste and the patient’s saliva applied to the mirror face will keep the mirror clear
I learned this tip from Lee Emmons, RDH (Designer of the HammerHead suction mirror)
Mark Frias, RDH
Hi Mark,
very nice video about the suction mirror.
However – what’s the efficacy against water spray and small droplets of water on the mirror.
thanks.
Nothing wrong with water spray per say (it can’t be avoided when using an ultrasonic scaler or prepping a tooth. Maintaining a clear view really has more to do with how the water spray interacts with the mirror face.
Greetings Mark, thank you. Loved the video! Hope to see more of your dental techniques soon.
I assume the prophy paste will not leave scratches on the mirror? I generally dip my mirror in mouthwash which allows sheeting of the water. Would try this if it didn’t scratch the mirror. Comment?
Hi Nanci,
I haven’t experienced any scratching and I use medium grit most of the time.
