About Me

Introduction

My name is Mark Frias and I’m a male dental hygienist, a cyclist, a writer, a father, a husband, an animal lover, a vegan, a libertarian, a U.S. Air Force veteran, a product designer and the proud owner of a weedwacker.  I currently live in Taunton, Massachusetts.

What is the focus of this blog?

I’m a big fan of people who write like an actual human being.  Most dental related writing out there has a very “corporate” or “consultant” or even worse, a “politically correct” tone.

That kind of writing is not only boring, it actually bothers me.  My writing here will be honest and real and hopefully, sometimes funny.

On this blog, you find:

  • Interviews with interesting folks in dentistry
  • Dental product reviews
  • Product giveaways
  • My general thoughts on dentistry
  • And every now and then, I’ll write about cycling.

  1. Hey Mark-

Jason Schwartz from Dental Product Shopper.com here. We also have a hygienist site called Hygiene Product Shopper.com as well. Our bread-n-butter is product evaluations, much like you feature on your site. Would you be interested in doing evaluations for us? The pay is low (none) and you get to evaluate new products solely for the sake of being able to provide our readers and web site users with unbiased opinions, along with other everyday practicing dentists and hygienists….. Basically, we’re the complete opposite of other evaluation pubs as we don’t compensate our evaluators, nor are they endorsed key opinion leaders. Interested?

  2. Hello Mr. Frias,

I graduate from Dental Hygiene school this upcoming May. I love being in this profession and being around the girls is not problem. I have a mock interview coming up in two weeks with a dentist. I would like to know as a male hygienist are there any advice you could give me. I would appreciate your advice about this.

    Thanks

    • Hi Bryon,

Be yourself! Gender should not be on your mind. If the dentist doesn’t want to hire a male, then there’s nothing you can really do about it anyway. Yes, generally speaking, men and women bring certain advantages to the table, but on the individual level it means nothing IMO. Good luck.

  3. Hi Mark,

Came across your Blog and YouTube channel. Impressed by the data and knowledge…

My name is Shachar from Israel. I’m the CEO of NewDent, a startup which currently develop an innovative dental mirror which is fog free stays means, it stays clear all time. I saw your YouTube video tip about how to kip the mirror clear.
We are currently looking for few representatives and bloggers to spread the word of our unique mirror.

What is your opinion about that kind of mirror? do you see a market for it in the US?

Would you like to discuss about our offer?

Would love hearing your reply to my email.
    Regards from Israel’

  4. Hello Mark,

Thank you for your blog! This is one of the few places where piezo and magneto scalers have been compared in an unbiased fashion! I have found that most hygienists have very little knowledge or experience with piezos. There are several different types of piezo, and only one really differs from magneto in any effective, ergonomic, and patient-comfort way.

Keep up the good work and thank you for having this blog!
